Peony beside roses
Practical compatibility, planting, care and climate limits, without exaggerated promises.
Why it makes a good neighbour
Peony creates a strong early wave of large flowers before most roses reach full bloom, and supports a classic romantic style.
How to plant it beside a rose
Herbaceous peonies are planted shallowly in rich, well-drained soil. They dislike frequent transplanting and being shaded by a rose.
Allow it its own space
Do not squeeze it between nearby rose bushes.
Do not bury the buds
For herbaceous peonies, about 2.5 cm below the surface.
Give it sun and air
Shade weakens flowering.
Avoid unnecessary disturbance
Choose the spot with many years in mind.
For Ukraine and Europe
Short care calendar
Spring
Feed lightly and mulch without burying the buds.
Summer
Support heavy blooms and water during drought.
Autumn and winter
Cut dead stems down to ground level and remove them.
Roses already paired with peony
Roza Book's agreed materials currently include two such roses. We show only confirmed pairings and do not pad the list with random varieties just to add numbers.
Harmony and contrastMostly soft, romantic harmony.
Growing conditionsDo not plant them close together: both plants need space, light and their own root zone.
Why these varietiesAn editorial selection: the varieties were chosen for their palette and suitable role in the composition; random options were not added just for the sake of numbers.
Source for verification
Basic requirements were checked against materials from the Royal Horticultural Society. The practical placement beside a rose is worded separately and is not presented as a universal, strict rule.
