What to do in the garden now
- Remove winter protection gradually.
- Cut out dead, damaged and diseased shoots.
- Prune according to the rose's group.
- First feeding — once growth starts, if it is needed.
- Water deeply, according to the weather and soil type.
- Keep up the mulch layer.
- Deadhead repeat-flowering varieties.
- After the first flush, a second moderate feeding is possible.
- Don't push late soft growth with nitrogen.
- Clear away diseased fallen leaves.
- Don't do hard formative pruning.
- Prepare winter protection to suit the variety and your region.
- Make sure winter covers don't get wet or start to rot.
- Check ventilation after thaws.
- Don't feed dormant plants.
- Plan spring pruning by group, not at random.
