How to grow

Where to plant. The front of a border with low perennials, containers, group plantings of 3 bushes; the compact, rounded silhouette suits even small beds.

Climate. Down to −29 °C; a full comfort zone for the whole of Ukraine, including the Carpathians with light protection.

Care. Minimal; the compact bush needs almost no shaping. Removing spent flowers encourages new waves; standard prevention of leaf diseases in humid climates.

About the name

Name. After Dame Darcey Bussell (born 1969), one of the most famous British ballerinas of the twentieth century, principal ballerina of the Royal Ballet from 1989 to 2007. After her ballet career she became a judge on the BBC show 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

Breeding. Raised by David Austin Sr. in Great Britain. Registered 2005; presented at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2006. Patent code AUSdecorum (US PP 18,717). Parentage: unnamed seedling × unnamed seedling (Austin does not disclose it).

Significance. One of the best dark raspberry English Roses of the last decade.
