How to grow

Where to plant. Formal borders, mono yellow-pink groups, containers on a terrace, grand entrances; ideal in a group with Caramella and Brothers Grimm as the 'Kordes-triptych of nostalgic roses'.

Climate. To −20 °C — in Ukraine with moderate winter protection; in the south — no protection.

Care. Classic HT — spring pruning to 3–5 buds; removing spent blooms encourages new flushes; almost no disease prevention needed (Resistenzzucht).

About the name

Name. 'Kordes Jubilee' = 'Kordes Anniversary' — in honour of the 125th anniversary of the nursery W. Kordes' Söhne (Sparrieshoop, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany), founded in 1887. The anniversary was marked in 2012, and this showpiece variety was released for that date. One of the best-known anniversary varieties of the Kordes house.

Breeding. MAJOR CORRECTION: the code is KORgotfun, NOT KORfeebenel (that is a different variety — Sangerhäuser Jubiläumsrose). Bred in 2003 (controlled cross in summer 2003, selection in May 2004), market introduction 2012 — NOT 2002. Breeder: Tim-Hermann Kordes — the 4th generation of Kordes (Wilhelm I ~1887 – Wilhelm II – Reimer – Tim-Hermann). Internal code KO 03/1286-01. US PP 26,184 (2015). Parentage is not published.

Significance. 3 gold medals: Hradec Králové (Czech Republic), Kortrijk (Belgium), The Hague (Netherlands). It did NOT receive an ADR — contrary to claims by some Ukrainian portals (the ADR-rose lists do not include this variety). It belongs to the 'nostalgic' multi-petalled line of HT Kordes roses, started by the varieties Eliza and Kosmos. Class HT (NOT a Floribunda, as is sometimes wrongly stated). Often confused with KORfeebenel (Sangerhäuser Jubiläumsrose, 2003) — a separate variety; the year 2002 is wrong (the correct year is 2012).
