How to grow

Where to plant. In a formal flower bed, in the front or second row of a mixed border, beside seating areas (for the scent); excellent for cutting thanks to its quartered form.

Climate. South and centre of Ukraine — no protection needed; in the north — winter cover (USDA zone 6b).

Care. Moderate; full sun, nutrient-rich soil; good health makes care easier; feed twice per season.

About the name

Name. After the Danish crown princess Mary — Mary Elizabeth Donaldson (born 1972 in Hobart, Australia), who married Crown Prince Frederik on 14 May 2004, and in January 2024 became Queen of Denmark. The Danish house Poulsen presented the rose for the royal wedding.

Breeding. Bred by Mogens Olesen for Poulsen Roser (Denmark): crossed in 1996, introduced in 2004. Patent code POULCAS018. Parentage: unnamed seedling × 'Poulsyng' (Clair Renaissance).

Significance. A Danish royal commemorative floribunda from the Castle® collection — an old-fashioned quartered form, strong scent and good health; in 2010 it was awarded the Prix d'Honneur in Nantes.
