How to grow

Where to plant. A prime spot by a path or entrance (because of the strong fragrance), a mixed border, groups of 3.

Climate. Grows well in all regions of Ukraine; in the north — with winter cover; tolerates the heat of the south.

Care. Standard for English roses — pruning by 1/3 in spring, mulch, regular watering, prevention of fungal diseases.

About the name

Name. After Benjamin Britten (1913–1976), the English composer, conductor and pianist, one of the greatest British composers of the twentieth century (the operas Peter Grimes and War Requiem).

Breeding. Bred by David C. H. Austin in 1992, introduced at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2001. Parentage: Charles Austin × Unnamed Seedling. Patent code: AUSencart.

Meaning. A red-orange tone that is unique for Austin — an unusual palette for English roses, which are usually bred in pastel colours. Its strong fruity fragrance, with notes of wine and pear drops, makes it one of the most fragrant English roses in this colour range.
