How to grow

Where to plant. A French 'château' flower garden, warm borders with autumn perennials, a central accent in the bed; for the strong scent — beside paths.

Climate. Down to −28 °C — good frost hardiness; in France it overwinters without protection; in Ukraine with moderate protection.

Care. Minimal — typical Generosa-quality. Removing spent flowers encourages new waves; formative pruning in spring.

About the name

Name. After Émilien Guillot, a descendant of the Guillot dynasty, the oldest commercial rose nursery in the world.

Breeding. Bred by Dominique Massad in France; introduced by Roseraies Pierre Guillot in 2001. Breeding code MASemgui (MASEMGUI). Belongs to the Générosa® series — the flagship subcategory of modern shrub roses from Guillot. Parentage not published (commercially protected).

Significance. The Guillot dynasty dates from 1829 and is the oldest commercial rose nursery in the world. It was Jean-Baptiste André Guillot who created the first 'modern rose' — 'La France' (1867), which founded the Hybrid Tea class. The Generosa series — Guillot's flagship line since the 1990s — combines the nostalgic forms of old roses with modern health. Émilien Guillot is an example of a 'family dedication' in the history of breeding.

Choose a reference temperature to compare with the cultivar’s data. This is not an overwintering forecast or advice on winter protection; consider wind, moisture and the duration of frost.

Regional data are generalised. USDA describes average annual extreme minima, not a forecast; the values in the list are rounded. Check the conditions at your site. More information: Roses in Ukraine's climate.
