How to grow

Where to plant. Arches, pergolas, trellises, fences 2.5–3 m high; a romantic corner of the garden, an entrance area. Thanks to its strong scent, place it near a seating area. Also excellent for cutting.

Climate. Withstands frost down to about −26 °C, USDA 5b–9. Overwinters reliably over most of Ukraine; in the north, protect the base lightly.

Care. Thanks to its ADR-resistance it has few diseases, so minimal spraying. Spring sanitary pruning, horizontal tying of the long canes for abundant flowering, and removal of spent blooms.

About the name

Name. 'Jasmina', a soft female name close to 'jasmine'; it emphasises the tenderness of the flower and its rich fruity-floral scent.

Breeding. Bred by the German nursery W. Kordes' Söhne and introduced around 2005; part of the Climbing Max collection (nostalgic climbers).

Significance. It received ADR 2007 and a scent prize in Nantes. Valued for combining a nostalgic, very full flower, a powerful fruity scent and high disease resistance: one of the most popular modern pink climbers.
