About the name

Name. Named after the heroine of Shakespeare's play 'Romeo and Juliet' — a symbol of romance and love that suits the variety's soft peach-apricot tones.

Breeding. Bred by David C. H. Austin Sr. at the house of David Austin Roses (Albrighton, Great Britain). Code AUSjameson. Introduced 2006. Parentage: seed parent — unnamed seedling OA/001; pollen parent — unnamed seedling (both David Austin breeding).

Significance. The famous 'rose worth £3 million': David Austin worked on it for about 15 years, and its 2006 debut at the Chelsea Flower Show made it the most expensive rose in development at the time. It became a leading wedding variety in the USA thanks to its rosette form, versatile apricot shade and long vase life.
