How to grow

First and foremost this is a greenhouse florist's HT for cutting, bred for cut flowers and wedding floristry — the benchmark of the trend pink palette in bouquets. But it also grows well in the garden: in the Forest-Steppe and Steppe — in the open, in the north — with cover. A sunny spot, fertile soil.

Climate. Bred for greenhouses, but it also overwinters in open ground: in the Forest-Steppe / Steppe — with light cover, in the north — with full cover. Winter hardiness is moderate; winter does not always come on time — in harsh snowless years dieback is possible.

Care. In greenhouse conditions — control light and temperature; 14-day vase life — the benchmark among cut roses.

About the name

Name. "Pink Avalanche+" = "pink avalanche" — the pink version of the original Avalanche+ ("avalanche"), signalling the generosity and scale of the bushes in the greenhouse. The Avalanche+ series from Lex+ Voorn is one of the most influential cut-flower series of the 2000s: the original Avalanche+ (LEXani, 2004) is white with a greenish tint; sports include Pink Avalanche+, Peach Avalanche+, Sweet Avalanche, Hot Avalanche and others.

Breeding. Bred at Lex+ Voorn / Voorn Roses (Netherlands) — a leading Dutch breeder of premium cut roses. The exact code is not published in open sources. Sport of Avalanche+ (LEXani, Voorn 2004). Introduction ~2007. PBR (plant variety protection), no AARS.

Significance. One of the most popular pink cut modern roses. 14 days of vase life — the benchmark for wedding floristry. A thornless stem — rare for HTs and especially valued by florists. The Avalanche+ series is one of the most influential floristry series of the 2000s — sports are available in all colours for any themed arrangement. Not to be confused with the garden "Pink Avalanche" J.B.Williams 1988 (WILpavl) — that is a different shrub variety; HMF has a confused page for it.
