How to grow

Where to plant. First and foremost a greenhouse florist's HT for cutting — bred for cut flowers and wedding floristry; excellent in wedding and pastel bouquets with varieties from the Avalanche+ series. But it also grows well in the garden: in the Forest-Steppe and Steppe — in the open, in the north — with cover. A sunny spot, fertile soil.

Climate. USDA 6b–9b. Bred for greenhouses, but it overwinters in open ground too: in the Forest-Steppe / Steppe — with light cover, in the north — with full cover. Winter does not always come on time — in harsh snowless years, dieback is possible.

Care. In greenhouse conditions — control light and temperature; good vase life.

About the name

Name. "Peach Avalanche+" = "peach avalanche" — the peach version of the original Avalanche+ ("avalanche"). The marketing semantics of the Avalanche+ series from Lex+ Voorn stress the generosity of greenhouse flowering.

Breeding. Bred at Lex+ Voorn / Voorn Roses (Netherlands). Code LEXhcaep (confirmed by HMF). Sport of Avalanche+ (LEXani, Voorn 2004), found in February 2006, on sale from 2007. Australian PBR AU4182P (14.12.2010).

Significance. One of the key varieties of the Avalanche+ series in the pale peach palette. A seasonal colour play: in the heat the outer petals turn cream — a soft gradient that florists love. The Avalanche+ series is one of the most influential florist series of the 2000s. USDA 6b–9b in the greenhouse — a wide temperature range for greenhouse cultivation. No major official awards (AARS and ADR were not given).

Choose a reference temperature to compare with the cultivar’s data. This is not an overwintering forecast or advice on winter protection; consider wind, moisture and the duration of frost.

Regional data are generalised. USDA describes average annual extreme minima, not a forecast; the values in the list are rounded. Check the conditions at your site. More information: Roses in Ukraine's climate.
