How to grow

Where to plant. First and foremost a wedding cut rose — for brides' bouquets and festive arrangements (vase life ~8 days). In the garden — a compact bush in a sunny spot.

Climate. A greenhouse cut variety; data on hardiness in open ground are limited — in our conditions it needs a sunny, sheltered spot and winter protection.

Care. A sunny spot, regular watering and feeding; for cutting — cut at the half-open bud stage, early in the morning.

About the name

Name. After Lady Gabriella Windsor, whom her family calls 'Ella', ahead of her wedding to Thomas Kingston at St George's Chapel (Windsor, 18 May 2019). The rose first appeared in the bride's wedding bouquet.

Breeding. David Austin (David Austin Roses), 2019. Patent code AUSwagsy (US PP32,531). Synonym 'Leonora'.

Significance. A wedding cut rose first released as 'Ella', now sold as 'Leonora' (it is one and the same variety). Grown by Alexandra Farms; vase life ~8 days.

Choose a reference temperature to compare with the cultivar’s data. This is not an overwintering forecast or advice on winter protection; consider wind, moisture and the duration of frost.

Regional data are generalised. USDA describes average annual extreme minima, not a forecast; the values in the list are rounded. Check the conditions at your site. More information: Roses in Ukraine's climate.
