How to grow

Where to plant. In a mixed border, a nostalgic garden of warm tones, a border, or containers; thanks to its heat tolerance it holds its shape and colour in summer heat and in the south.

Climate. All of Ukraine — very winter-hardy (USDA zone 5); at the same time heat-tolerant. One of the most frost-hardy in its batch.

Care. Full sun, nutrient-rich soil; undemanding, healthy; feed twice per season; removing spent blooms encourages new flushes.

About the name

Name. After the garden festival 'La Villa Cotta' in the town of Laubach (Laubach Castle, Germany). The Italian-sounding name (villa + cotta ≈ 'baked, terracotta villa') suits the warm copper tones, but the origin is the festival itself.

Breeding. Bred by Tim-Hermann Kordes for W. Kordes' Söhne (Germany) in 2002; released for sale in 2013. Patent code KORbamflu (in the USA 'Crazy Love'). Parent forms are not disclosed.

Significance. A member of the Sunbelt series — roses bred specially for hot climates, with a nostalgic dense-rosette flower form and a very stable copper-apricot colour.

Choose a reference temperature to compare with the cultivar’s data. This is not an overwintering forecast or advice on winter protection; consider wind, moisture and the duration of frost.

Regional data are generalised. USDA describes average annual extreme minima, not a forecast; the values in the list are rounded. Check the conditions at your site. More information: Roses in Ukraine's climate.
