How to grow

Where to plant. Romantic French flower beds, mixed borders with lavender and catmint (Nepeta), formal borders; ideal in a group with other Émilien Guillot and Chantal Mérieux roses as a 'French Massad-triptych' — a pink-coral 'français' with a raspberry scent.

Climate. Down to −23 °C — suitable for most regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv; the south without winter protection, the centre and north with moderate protection.

Care. A classic HT Generosa-type — prune in spring to 3–5 buds; removing spent blooms encourages new flushes; good rain resistance — less prevention needed after rain.

About the name

Name. The rose is named after Laurent Cabrol (born 1955) — a French journalist and presenter, a well-known popularizer of meteorology, aviation, nature and agriculture. He worked on TF1 (from 1981 — the longest-serving weather presenter in the history of French television), then on Europe 1. The variety is dedicated to him as someone 'in love with nature' — for many years of popularising climate knowledge and France's rural landscape.

Breeding. IMPORTANT CORRECTION: bred by Dominique Massad (France) for Roseraie Guillot (a Guillot®-Massad collaboration), bred around 2007–2008, in the Guillot catalogue since 2009. Code MASlaucab. THIS IS NOT MEILLAND AND NOT DELBARD (a very common error — because Cabrol is a media personality, users guess a MEI-code). Parentage not disclosed (typical Guillot practice for Generosa). It belongs to the Generosa® Roseraie Guillot collection — a series of modern Anglo-French roses in the style of David Austin, developed with Massad.

Significance. The 6th Dominique Massad variety in our catalogue — alongside Émilien Guillot, Chantal Mérieux, Belle de Segosa, André Turcat, Froufroutante Jackie, Institut Lumière. Massad is a leading modern French breeder who has worked with Guillot since the 1990s. A separate thematic group for the handbook: 'Massad/Guillot — a modern French Generosa'. Natalia's personal choice — it grows in her garden, the catalogue's first 'witness': a variety she grows herself. Often mistakenly attributed to Meilland or confused with other 'Generosa' roses (Versigny, Sonia Rykiel).

Choose a reference temperature to compare with the cultivar’s data. This is not an overwintering forecast or advice on winter protection; consider wind, moisture and the duration of frost.
