How to grow

Where to plant. In a romantic flower garden, the front and middle of a mixed border, a border edging; thanks to its quartered form and abundant flowering it is excellent in groups and for cutting (wedding flowers).

Climate. South and centre of Ukraine — no cover needed; in the north — with winter cover (USDA zone 6b).

Care. Moderate; full sun, fertile soil; healthy foliage makes care easier; removing spent flowers encourages new flushes.

About the name

Name. After Maria Theresa (1717–1780) — Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Hungary and Bohemia, the only woman ruler of the House of Habsburg.

Breeding. Bred by Hans Jürgen Evers for Rosen-Tantau (Germany): crossed in 1997, introduced in 2003. Patent code TAN97094. Parent forms have not been published ('sister' of the variety Baronesse).

Significance. A popular nostalgic pink Floribunda from the Nostalgic® line of Tantau; widely grown both as a garden rose and as a cut flower (it stands in a vase for about 9–10 days).
