How to grow

Where to plant. For a pergola, an arch, or a romantic garden in the English cottage style. A fine 'vertical accent' with a fragrant, nostalgic flower.

Climate. The centre and south of Ukraine are ideal; in the northern regions — with winter cover.

Care. Tie in horizontally or spirally, prune side shoots to 3–5 buds in spring, feed regularly (the flowers are large and heavy and need energy).

About the name

Name. 'Barock' — the Baroque era (XVII century) with its lavishness, complexity and nostalgia. The name reflects the quartered, luxurious old-type flower form.

Breeding. Bred by Hans Jürgen Evers (Rosen Tantau) in 1999. The parentage is not officially published. Patent code: TANbak.

Meaning. Opulence, luxury, nostalgia — the combination of a strong fragrance and a chameleon colour made it one of Tantau's top climbers of the late 90s. Confirmed ADR award (the German standard of resistance and quality). Sold in the USA as Reach For The Stars.

Choose a reference temperature to compare with the cultivar’s data. This is not an overwintering forecast or advice on winter protection; consider wind, moisture and the duration of frost.

Regional data are generalised. USDA describes average annual extreme minima, not a forecast; the values in the list are rounded. Check the conditions at your site. More information: Roses in Ukraine's climate.
