About the name
Name. 'Ibiza' is the name of the island of Ibiza in the Balearic archipelago (Spain), known as a symbol of sun, warm sea and parties. The name highlights the variety's 'resort' warm palette: orange, yellow and pink recall a Mediterranean sunset.
Breeding. IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION: HelpMeFind lists TWO different varieties named 'Ibiza': (1) 'Ibiza' (Pedro Dot, Spain, 1938), an old white Hybrid Tea, parentage 'Madame Butterfly' × 'Frau Karl Druschki'. Almost no longer sold today. (2) 'Ibiza' ® (Interplant Roses, Netherlands, 2006, INTercomanje), a modern variety currently sold in Europe. Orange-yellow with a pink edge. Our catalogue covers this modern Interplant 2006 variety, because it is actually available to Ukrainian buyers.
Significance. Interplant Roses is a leading Dutch breeding house specialising in spray roses and modern HTs. Our catalogue already includes their Fire Flash (spray, yellow-crimson, 2000); Ibiza is the second Interplant variety. Its parentage is commercially protected, which is standard Dutch practice, as with Schreurs (Dolcetto) and Lex+ (Guinness). In popular culture Ibiza is a typical 'wedding' or 'summer' commercial rose, popular in bouquets and formal arrangements.
