How to grow

Where to plant. A tall, sturdy bush of 120–150 cm — for the back of a mixed border, as a specimen plant or in a row. The upright shape holds its form without support. A sunny spot and fertile soil — standard for a Hybrid Tea.

Climate. USDA 5b–9b (approximately −26…−29 °C). In Ukraine it needs winter protection.

Care. Standard for Hybrid Teas. Nurseries praise the health of the variety, but there is no reliable, verified data on disease resistance — follow general preventive practice.

About the name

Name. The variety is interesting because it was introduced under different names in different countries. In Canada it is known as 'Liebestraum' ('dream of love'), and it was sold as 'Red Queen' in France (Vilmorin), Britain (McGredy, 1968) and Australia (1970).

Breeding. Bred by Reimer Kordes at the Kordes house in Germany, introduced in 1968. Breeding code — KORlo (exactly KORlo, not KORte). Parent varieties: Colour Wonder × Liberty Bell. Do not confuse: Liebeszauber is another Kordes variety (1990), not a synonym of Red Queen. And Königin der Rosen is the parent variety Colour Wonder (it was sold under this name too), not Red Queen itself.
