How to grow

Where to plant. On an arch, pergola, trellis, wall or obelisk — as a flowering vertical; the striped flower and fruity scent are lovely beside seating areas.

Climate. South and centre of Ukraine — no protection needed; in the north — winter protection (USDA zone 6b).

Care. Full sun, nutrient-rich soil; the shoots are bent into arches and tied to the support (this gives more flowers); feed twice per season.

About the name

Name. After Julie Andrieu (born 1974, Paris) — a French culinary journalist, critic and TV presenter ('Les Carnets de Julie'). Christened in 2016; the rich fruity-gourmand scent deliberately echoes her culinary role.

Breeding. Bred by the house of Georges Delbard (France), introduced in 2016. Patent code DELstrirocrem. The same variety is sold as Claude Monet Climbing (Europe) and Édouard Manet (Japan). Parent varieties have not been disclosed.

Significance. A 'celebrity' christening by Delbard; the striped flower belongs to the 'Roses des Peintres' (Painters' Roses) collection — which is why it is sold internationally under the names of painters.
