How to grow

Where to plant. In groups and hedges, on verges and slopes, and in landscape schemes where a long, profuse mass of colour is needed without demanding care.

Climate. USDA 5b–9b; in zone 5 winter protection is advisable. In Ukraine it is worth giving light winter protection in the north; it overwinters well everywhere else.

Care. Undemanding, needs almost no disease treatment; loves full sun; black spot is possible on overly wet soil.

About the name

Name. 'La Sevillana' (meaning 'the woman from Seville') — the name points to Spanish colour and temperament.

Breeding. Bred by Marie-Louise (Louisette) Meilland (France) around 1978, breeding code MEIgekanu.

Significance. An undemanding bright red landscape rose, ADR-marked, which gained fame for its legendary health and profuse flowering; it has a well-known pink sport, Pink La Sevillana.

My climate

Choose a reference temperature to compare with the cultivar’s data. This is not an overwintering forecast or advice on winter protection; consider wind, moisture and the duration of frost.

Regional data are generalised. USDA describes average annual extreme minima, not a forecast; the values in the list are rounded. Check the conditions at your site. More information: Roses in Ukraine's climate.
