How to combine Artemis in the garden

Artemis creates a light cream centre with very double, round flowers. A neighbouring rose should be chosen to add a different form or one soft colour accent.

Airy light base

Single cream-white sprays support the light palette but create a contrast of form and leave the composition airy.

Gentle pink transition

Soft pink cups add colour without sharp contrast and do not overpower the cream of Artemis.

One colour accent

Choose honey-caramel warmth or a restrained smoky-lilac depth; these are alternative moods, not a required pair.

Companion perennials

Purple, lime and silver partners bring out the cream-green nuance of Artemis.

  • Salvia 'Caradonna'. Purple verticals stand out clearly against the cream background; they need sun and drainage.
  • Catmint. A low blue cloud forms a soft edge and does not hide the bush.
  • Lady’s mantle. Lime flower clusters pick up the greenish outer petals; do not plant too densely.
  • Lamb’s ear. Silvery texture adds a cool edge; plant it in a drier spot.

What to avoid

Do not group several equally very double cream-white varieties nearby: they will merge into one uniform pale mass, and the form of Artemis will become less noticeable.

How to grow

Where to plant. At the back or middle of a mixed border, in a low hedge, in a group, or in a large container. Conditions: a sunny, airy spot, 50–60 cm between plants, and fertile soil without waterlogging. Winter in Ukraine: in the south and in sheltered places the base of the bush is protected; in central, northern and eastern regions the young bush and the lower part of the canes are covered after a sustained cold spell.
