How to grow

Where to plant. A hedge along a fence, group plantings, borders: a reliable 'plant and forget' rose. Along a fence, plant no closer than about 1 m from a neighbouring bush, so the bushes have enough light and air.

Climate. Exceptionally hardy (USDA 3b, down to about −34 °C); overwinters without protection across all of Ukraine.

Care. Undemanding; removing spent flowers encourages new flushes. In a humid summer, prevent blackspot.

About the name

Name. Named for the 100th anniversary of the city of Morden (Manitoba, Canada), where it was bred.

Breeding. Henry Marshall, Agriculture Canada research station, Morden, 1972; the Parkland series are exceptionally hardy roses for the prairies.

Significance. One of the classic Canadian roses, created to survive −30 °C and below without protection, an ideal choice for cold regions.
