How to grow

Where to plant. In drifts to cover large areas; on slopes to stabilise the soil; along paths as a low pink border; in municipal parks (its typical use); in gardens with little upkeep — the benchmark landscape rose; under trees and shrubs — tolerates partial shade.

Climate. All of Ukraine without cover (USDA 6b–9b); tolerates partial shade; copes well with summer heat.

Care. MINIMAL: sun or light shade; resistance 5/5 — no chemical treatments; prune once every 2–3 years "to the ground" with secateurs; feed 1× per season.

About the name

Name. In Germany — "Heidetraum" = "Steppe dream" (from Heide — steppe/heath + Traum — dream); in international marketing — "Pink Flower Carpet" (a pink flower carpet). A poetic description of the variety: "a carpet of flowers, like a dream of a heath in bloom". Many trade names: Emera, Emera Pavement, Blooming Carpet, Floral Carpet, Pink Veil — for different markets.

Breeding. Bred by Werner Noack at Noack Rosen (Germany). Code NOAtraum. Bred 1988, introduced 1989/1991. Parentage: 'Immensee' (shrub, Kordes 1982) × 'Amanda' (floribunda, Bees 1979). Triploid.

Significance. WFRS HALL OF FAME 2022 — at the 19th World Rose Convention in Adelaide, Australia (October 2022). THE 18TH VARIETY IN THE HISTORY OF THE HoF, THE FIRST GROUND COVER to receive this honour! A revolutionary recognition of landscape roses as a separate category worthy of the HoF. WORLDWIDE SALES OF OVER 100 MILLION SEEDLINGS IN 34 YEARS — a record among modern roses. The founder of the Flower Carpet series (Red, White, Yellow, Coral) — the standard for modern landscape roses. The benchmark landscape rose — the standard of modern landscape planting. Resistance 5/5 to diseases without chemical treatments — top quality for organic and public gardens. The award was received by Reinhard Noack (son of the breeder Werner Noack, who recently passed away) from WFRS Henrianne de Briey (the WFRS president). Tolerates partial shade. Correction: the WFRS HoF year is 2022 (Adelaide), not 2021 — a common myth in secondary catalogues.
